Open Tutoring Positions

Position Summary
The Desk Worker supports the daily operations of the UAC Tutoring Program, helping maintain a welcoming, organized, and safe environment for students during evening P-Set support. Desk Workers serve as the first point of contact for students using the space, and play a key role in ensuring smooth operations during evening study hours.

Responsibilities

• Be able to commit a minimum of 3 hours in person at the Tutoring Collaborative (4-107) during evening shifts (Mon-Thurs, 6-9 p.m.)

• Open and close 4-107 according to established procedures

• Ensure all visitors sign into Tutoring Program services, including those using the space for independent study
• Ensure all individuals in the space are behaving respectfully and appropriately
• Maintain a clean and organized environment
• Work with Tutors to provide needed materials for P-set nights
• Direct student traffic and answer questions about tutoring resources
• Alert UAC administrative staff of disruptive or disrespectful behavior
• Notify UAC administrative staff when supplies (e.g., pencils, markers) are running low

• Attend monthly staff check-ins in person
  

Hours & Pay

• Be able to commit a minimum of 3 hours a week in person in 4-107
• Evening shifts, Monday–Thursday, 6:00–9:00 p.m.
• $15/hour, including paid training

• Responsible and reliable with strong communication skills
• Ability to maintain a welcoming, respectful environment
• Comfortable enforcing community guidelines when necessary
• Interest in supporting the UAC Tutoring Program mission and student success

Position Summary
The Tutoring Program, located in 4-107, provides support and resources to MIT students with a focus on first-year GIRs. The sessions are run by tutors: advanced upper-level and graduate students committed to teaching a diverse population of MIT students.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Tutors are expected to work a minimum of 6 hours each week, including 2 hours of pset night and 4 hours of availability for 1:1 sessions and/or a facilitated study group . Additionally, tutors should:

• have excellent communication and teaching skills
• be an MIT graduate student or MIT upper-level undergraduate who has earned at least a B+ in the course they are interested in supporting (or ASE’d)*
• have excellent levels of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
• exhibit appropriate and professional behavior at all times

Hours & Pay

• Undergraduate students: $18/hour
• Graduate students: $20/hour 

*Students who earned credit through an ASE may still be eligible to tutor that course if they earned at least a B+ in a subsequent MIT course in the same subject sequence (e.g., ASE’d 8.01 and earned a B+ or higher in 8.02). Please contact tutoring@mit.edu with questions.

NOTE: We are not able to employ international or non-registered graduate students. Working as a Tutoring Program tutor does not fulfill any departmental TAship requirement.
