Staff Associate, FLI Student Advising & Success

Hometown: Seattle, WA

What did you study in undergrad? B.A. double major in English and economics (Emory University)

What was your favorite experience as an undergrad? I enjoyed serving as an Advising Fellow with Matriculate, an organization that provides free college application advising to low/moderate-income, high-achieving high school students. I met friends of different backgrounds while contributing to an organization that produces tangible impact on the FLI community!

What are your interests/hobbies? Reading fiction and poetry (ex. this summer I read Giovanni’s Room and The Four Quartets), martial arts (ex. Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, and wrestling), and celebrating my Cantonese heritage.

What is your favorite thing about MIT? MIT has expansive student mental health resources, such as unlimited therapy sessions and walk-in appointments. Transitioning and navigating college can be difficult, so it’s comforting to know students don’t have to do it alone.

What advice do you have for MIT students? If you recognize someone, say “hello!” Worst case, they don’t say hi back. Best case, you have a new friend.

Fun fact?I was a high school wrestler. In college, I competed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and won gold for my weight bracket.
