Jennifer Lopez

OACES Program Assistant

What is your hometown? Lawrence, MA

What did you study in undergrad? A.A. in Liberal Arts (Northern Essex Community College) and B.A. in Psychology (University of Massachusetts, Boston)

What was your favorite experience as an undergrad? As an undergraduate at UMass Boston, one of my most rewarding experiences was engaging in community-focused initiatives beyond the classroom. I served as a mentor, worked with the early education program Jumpstart, and contributed to research exploring Latino identity. I also collaborated on a student-led project with Boston City Hall that addressed Substance Use Disorder, focusing on improving how resources are allocated to those in need.

What are your interests/hobbies? Playing Roblox, going to concerts, walking along Jamaica Pond, pop culture, collecting memes, journaling, and volunteering for events.

What is your favorite thing about MIT? What I love most about MIT is its preservation of history and spirit of curiosity. As I walk across campus, I’m always struck by the tributes to past classes and students. It’s a constant reminder of the legacy here—and a warm reflection of the community being built for future generations.

What advice do you have for MIT students? My advice to MIT undergraduates is to make the most of the resources available, especially through the UAC. Impostor syndrome is something many of us face, but the more time you spend understanding yourself and investing in your own path, the less you’ll feel the need to measure yourself against others.

Fun Fact? Every time I introduce myself, someone sings “Jenny from the Block.” It’s become my unofficial anthem.
