Application closed for Summer 2024. Summer 2025 program information will become available in May 2025.
Are you an incoming first generation and/or low-income (FLI) student looking to get connected with the FLI community at MIT? Interested in discovering MIT through the experiences of current students, all while enjoying a summer camp on Cape Cod? FLIPOP is the ideal program for you!
Organized by the FLI Advising staff in the Undergraduate Advising Center and current FLI students, we create programs and activities to help you navigate the transition from high school to MIT.
FLIPOP takes place both on MIT’s campus and at Camp Burgess on Cape Cod, MA. Starting on-campus you’ll have lunch with FLI faculty and staff, compete in a campus-wide scavenger hunt, and learn about many of the exciting opportunities MIT has to offer. We then travel to Camp Burgess on Cape Cod for four days and three nights of camp fun and student counselor lead conversations. Activities will included tacking the ropes course, ziplining, color wars, waterfront time (e.g., kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding, beach), campfires with s’mores, game nights and more!
FLIPOP participation will help you:
- Familiarize yourself with MIT’s many on-campus resources and know where they are housed around the Institute.
- Unpack and understand the “hidden curriculum”- learn about the often unspoken aspects of higher education that can impact your academic success at MIT, and discover strategies to excel in this learning environment
- Engage with key campus resources such as the Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC), Career Advising & Professional Development (CAPD) office, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), and more.
- Develop lasting connections with your fellow FLIPOP participants, FLIPOP counselors, and the FLI advising team though team building exercises, conversations, sharing, and a lot of fun!
This program is open to all self-identifying first-generation college students and/or students from low-income communities (a.k.a. FLI students). We encourage you to apply if you feel that you can benefit from FLIPOP in any way. All food and housing during the duration of the program is covered by FLIPOP at no additional cost.
